July 26

This weekend we are heading up to the South Chilcotins, what an awesome place to find your own 'epic' adventure. I first discovered this wicked zone about 3 years ago. By far I was not the first nor will I be the last, but I am a huge fan of the high alpine style.

The usual assault on the Chilcotins is done via the Hurley pass north of Whistler and then via float plane with Tyax Air. Run by a former racer Dale Douglas and his wife Jane. There is just nothing like getting dropped deep into the back country and pedaling your way out over, 1, 2 or even 3 mountain passes.

This picture was taken 2 years ago as we crested Camel Pass above Taylor Basin, this is one of the pedal access' and from Tyaughton Lake takes about 3 hours to summit. From there the singletrack stretches out like a thin dark ribbon of loamy love.

It is often joked about that wee elves come out at night to sweep and vacuum the trails, they are so buff and deluxe they will forever capture your imagination. It's good that they are so buff as the scenery will force your eyes off the trail and into the horizon, which ain't that smart when mountain biking. Be aware a mechanical not fixed could force a 6-8 hour hike out. This is about as close as we get to our own piece of Switzerland right here in BC.

Play safe and seek the adventure. More upon my return Monday
